This product allows me to effectively profile and monitor data without requiring me to have extensive prior knowledge in such areas. I use it to monitor the large amounts of data that enter my organization and need to be monitored for discrepancies or otherwise unusual trends and pieces of information.

Likelihood to Recommend
Very well suited to monitoring large quantities and large varieties of data with extreme amounts of detail that would be otherwise impossible to effectively achieve without making many repeated mistakes in data processing. It is not well suited to monitor data collaboratively in a live setting with multiple different colleagues attempting to work at once.

SAP Information Steward enables passive Data Governance providing data quality issues insights on organization master data such as materials, customers and suppliers. It provides dashboards and allows to start a remediation process in case any issue is found. The remediation process is done through SAP Master Data Governance. Data Profiling is also a key feature utilized.

SAP Information Steward is well suited for companies looking for profiling data, monitoring data quality and managing policies. It provides dashboards and features to create the awareness on Data Quality dimensions. SAP IS is not suited to manage huge amount of data due to performance issues. It is not designed to correct data by its own. However, It can remediate data through integration with SAP Master Data Governance or SAP Data Services.

In the case of this organization, Information Steward was part of a suite from SAP together with Data Services and SAP Master Data Governance. In terms of the overall package it was worth it for the company. Informatica cost was higher and the overall benefit from SAP package was the key decision point.

SAP Information Steward is being used for data profiling and data quality management. We leveraged it during SAP S4HANA greenfield implementation for data profiling and to manage business rules validation during conversion as well as using it to measure regular real-time data quality checks. It is also being used for generating regular Adhoc profiling reports for business users.

  • The user interface can be more intuitive based on AI.
Likelihood to Recommend
In data conversion scenarios, the tool can be used for data profiling, data quality and data verification jobs. However, implementation depends on what implementation strategy or approach the company is adopting.
In real-time scenarios, the tool can be used for generating data profiling and data quality reports as well. Business rules for data quality checks can be built into the tool and can be assigned to end or business users.

  • Leveraged this tool during conversion for data profiling. It was helpful to identify erroneous records before performing load in the data system.
  • We have an MDG system. It would be helpful to have a real-time integration between SAP IS and SAP MDG to trigger MDG change requests.
  • We use it more to manage the data quality aspects of the organisation. Very friendly with business users and can address a business case based on user needs.
Alternatives Considered
SAP DS is more for data conversion. However, it can be used for data profiling as well.

I believe many features from SAP Information Steward are available in other SAP products as well hence it is more confusing for business or customers to do the right selection. Moreover SAP strategy is not very clear for this particular product hence often we are confused while exploring more related scenarios.
